NATALE GAVAGNIN (Italian, 1851-1923) - Venetian Canal Under a Full Moon

Gouache & Watercolor on Paper - Circa 1900

An extraordinary Venetian Impressionist style gouache and watercolor painting on paper by listed Italian artist - NATALE GAVAGNIN (1851-1923) - signed by the artist in the lower left corner - circa 1900. It is a view of a Venetian canal under a full moon with a lone black gondola navigating the waterway by the canal lights. The painting is done on a medium weight paper - it is contained in a matte provided by the Venetian gallery it was purchased from - stamped on the back of the matte ANTONIO GENOVA - VENICE - BEAUX ARTS. The watercolor is sandwiched between the matte and the backboard - the matte and backboard should be replaced as they appear to be acidic. The painting is contained in a vintage gesso and gilt frame retailed by the T. Eaton Company in Toronto - preserved under glass. The over-all condition of this pre-owned antique item is excellent - the watercolor is in exceptional condition no fading or staining - the paper appears to have minor foxing to the back - no loss - no damage - there are a few chips to the gilt finish of the frame (as photographed). Size of paper - 7"W x 13"H (approximate). Matte size - 11 7/8"W x 18 3/8"H. Frame size - 13"W x 19 1/2"H x 5/8"D.

Price - US $1,950.00
