EDMOND MALASSIS (1856-1941) - Listed French Artist - Carennac 1938 - Watercolor

 

An extraordinary architectural watercolor painting on paper by French listed artist - EDMOND MALASSIS (1856-1941) - signed by the artist in the lower right corner and titled CARRENAC - also dated 1938. It is a partial view of an historic building in the medieval village of Carennac, France in the Dordogne Valley. The painting is done on a very thick - quality - hand-made paper. The watercolor is attached with adhesive tape to a paper matte using the same colors as the painting - possibly produced by the artist. On the back of the matte is an inscription proclaiming it to be a gift from the artist's wife in 1966. On the back board is another inscription identifying this artwork as payment for legal fees from the artist's wife in Paris - 1966. The painting is framed in a vintage - simple profile - gesso and gilt frame. The over-all condition of this pre-owned vintage item is excellent - there is a chip in the upper left corner of the frame where the gesso and gilt finish are missing (as photographed) - painting, matte and backboard are loose in the frame. The water-color is in exceptional condition, absolutely no fading or staining. Size of paper - 6 1/4"W x 9 3/8"H. Frame size - 9 3/4"W x 13 1/4"H x 1/2"D.

An extraordinary Venetian Impressionist style gouache and watercolor painting on paper by listed Italian artist - NATALE GAVAGNIN (1851-1923) - signed by the artist in the lower left corner - circa 1900. It is a view of a Venetian canal under a full moon with a lone black gondola navigating the waterway by the canal lights. Set of Twelve Hand-Made Studio Pottery Botanical Medallions/Tiles - 20th Century

Set of twelve vintage, unique and decorative - hand-made - studio pottery botanical medallions or tiles - from the 20th century. Each ceramic rondel is completely hand-made depicting a different botanical specimen - these include, but are not limited to - geranium leaves - ivy leaves - dandelion leaves as well as examples of grasses and other greenery. Each leaf grouping is hand-painted with a combination of blue and green glossy glazes - all set against a chocolate brown background glaze with a grainy finish. Raised edges to the perimeter of each piece - a few are marked with the initials AC on the back. They would look wonderful mounted into a decorative shadow box frame - all together or in multiples - or as part of a tile project. About the artist - Nelton Fisher was born May 28, 1965, in Albert Town, Trelawny, Jamaica. When he was a small child he lived with his grandmother and attended Maud McLeod Secondary School. He then moved to Anchovy to live with his father and attended Anchovy Secondary School. He is entirely self-taught and loved to paint from a very early age. One of his paintings was presented to the former Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Hon. Hugh Shearer. He is in many prestigious collections, and no Jamaican art collection could be said to be complete without his work.
