Vintage - Mid Century - hand modelled and carved sgraffito - free form studio pottery glazed porcelain vase with manipulated rim - signed and dated by the artist on the base - AUDREY DAVIES - BELLEVILLE (Ontario) - (19)78. Expertly glazed with a subtle mottled combination of blue and purple over the white porcelain body - contrasting cream colored glossy glaze to the rim and interior. The over-all condition of this vintage - pre-owned - item is excellent - no chips - no cracks - body and glaze imperfections as intended by the artist consistent with studio pottery and hand made items - in fine form. Size - 3 3/4" Diameter x 4 1/4" High.

AUDREY DAVIES is an accomplished Canadian studio potter from Belleville, Ontario - she started working in clay in 1952. Her work was honored with an award at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto in 1973. She is prominently mentioned (along with a photograph of her work) in the book - A Fine Line : Studio Crafts in Ontario from 1930 to the Present by Gail Crawford.
